The Coronation of King Charles III
The Coronation of King Charles III is a historic moment in the life of our nation. The Coronation Service will take place on Saturday 6th May, conducted by The Archbishop of Canterbury - The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby. Many of us will be watching or listening live to the service on that day, but across that weekend there will be local services and events to both prepare and celebrate.
The Parish of Haslemere holds a Royal Charter for it's Fair, which was last held in June 2022 in celebration of HM Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The Rector of the Parish of Haslemere is also a royal patronage, which means that the monarch has the right to appoint the incumbent. On 11th September last year, the Rector and Mayor gathered outside of the Town Hall to publically proclaim Charles III as part of the national announcement.
We in Haslemere will gather with millions across the nation, and billions across the world, to share, celebrate and pray for the King. To find out what is happening across the town please visit: www.haslemerefestival.org.uk
Within the Parish of Haslemere there are two services planned for the Coronation weekend:
Friday 5th May - An Occasion of Prayer and Vigil for the King - St Christopher's
King Charles will likely be spending the evening before his coronation in silent fasting and prayer. We too may wish to set aside a little of our own time to pray for him in a similar setting of quietness before God. From 5:00pm until 8:00pm St Christopher's church will be dedicated as a place of calm where anyone can come at any time to light a candle as vigil prayer for the King.
Sunday 7th May - A Civic Service in Celebration of the King's Coronation - St Bartholomew's
At 11:00am there will be a Civic service of prayers, hymns and reading in celebration of the King's coronation. This is a public service open to everyone. The service will finish with the National Anthem.
