Make a Baptism Enquiry

Infant Baptism 2

You are very welcome top make an enquiry about baptism.  In the first instance, please read some of the guidance below, and then fill in the simple online form here.

The minister, either Chris or Justin, will be in touch with you to confirm the date for the baptism, and a date to pay you a visit.

Where you live

There are many reasons why parents would like their children baptism, or those of adult years.  The Church of England is always local, as we are here in the Parish of Haslemere.  Baptism brings welcome from the local church, as well as a commitment from everyone involved.  We welcome anyone in the parish for baptism, and where there is good reason, those living outside of the parish.  For those living an appreciable distance away from Haslemere, we may gently decline for that same reason.

Number of guests

Baptisms are at their best when set as intimate family occasions, where we can all gather around the font.  We do not recommend large numbers of guests, and would suggest a maximum of 25-30.

Note about godparents

Godparents are central to the celebration of a new life, and good growth.  As family and friends, they should be prepared to make a life-long commitment to give your children their prayerful guidance and care, set by their own example of living a Christian virtuous life.  It is expected that they will be baptised as Christians themselves or are willing to be.

We recommend three or four godparents, although more may be possible under some special circumstances.  The key principle is that it’s important that your godparents are able to make the promises of baptism, which are made as vows before God, according to the beliefs of the Christian Faith.   Godparents may be of any Christian denomination at their own baptism.   Do please seek the advice of your church ministers before confirming godparents.

A note about fees

There is no fee!  Baptism is a gift of God, which in the church we call a sacrament.  The main thing is that baptism is a priceless gift of God’s life and love.
Some families do ask about making a donation to the work of our churches in the parish.  We are a charity, so such donations are very welcome.  It’s easy to make a donation after the service, here on our parish website: www.haslemereparish.org/donate
